Karl Jannuska, drummer and composer

Born 31/12/1975 in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada
currently resides in Paris, France.

After completing a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Performance from McGill University in Montreal Karl spent nine months in New York, with financial aid from both the Canada and Quebec Arts councils, studying drums with Tom Rainey.

At the age of 30 Karl has already appeared on over 20 recordings as a sideman and has recorded and/or performed with musicians including Lee Konitz, Sheila Jordan, Brad Mehldau, Kenny Wheeler, Mark Turner, Kurt Rosenwinkel, David Linx, Kevin Hays, Ingrid Jensen, Don Thompson, Stephane Belmondo, Serge Forté and Jacky Terrasson.

In 2004 Karl released his first album as a leader, “Liberating Vines”, which demonstrates his talents as a composer. The record received an Opus award for “Jazz and World Music record of the year” and at the 2004 Montreal Jazz Festival the young drummer was awarded the CBC Etoiles Galaxie prize for best composition.
