| About Raphaële Atlan |
|
A suivre…

Raphaële Atlan was born in Paris on May 10th, 1983.
She was attracted to music at a very early age, following the example of her mother who was a Bach enthusiast.
Raphaële started having dancing lessons at the age of 6, then piano lessons when she was 9 and singing lessons when she was 15.
When she was 17, she started singing as a professional with several bands, while completing her Art degree course at La Sorbonne University. Then in the fall of 2003, she decided she definitely wanted to take up music for a career and chose to apply to the American School of Modern Music in Paris.
At the same moment, she met the pianist Serge Forté with whom she acquired greater skill as a pianist. He introduced her to jazz music and to its greatest performers (Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett...). One year later, in 2004, she met the American singer Sheila Jordan, a great lady in the history of jazz, at one of her masterclasses in Paris. Raphaële had a few private lessons with her and still remembers the precious advice she was given: listen to the masterly improvisations by Miles Davis, Bird and Coltrane, and then let them sink in.
In July 2006, Raphaële made her first recording in the Serge Forté Trio's latest album, La Bohème (Ella Productions©), with Karl Jannuska playing the drums and Marc-Michel Le Bévillon on the bass. She was invited to sing beside Alain Chamfort and selected two masterpieces of the French musical repertoire: "La Vie en Rose" and "L'Hymne à l'Amour" by Edith Piaf, expressing all her sensibility and groove.
This experience allowed her to meet and to work, from time to time, with other great musicians such as Michel Rosciglione, Stéphane Guillaume, Mathieu Chazarenc, or Laurent Assoulen among others. On the occasion of a concert at L'Ecole Polytechnique in March, she had the honour of singing with Sheila Jordan and David Linx. Last spring, she started taking vocal improvisation lessons with Michele Hendricks and piano lessons with Pierre de Bethmann. She has recently set up a duet with the young and talented bass player Zacharie Abraham, in which she sings and plays the piano as well.
Passionately interested in African-American music, from its origins to its latest forms of expression such as nu-soul and hip-hop, Raphaële is mostly influenced by jazz, soul music and funk. She is now working on her own project, a mix of standards and original compositions. Keep an eye on her...
