"Oscar" Presentation

presentation

The pianist Serge Forté is pleased to present his new cd, Tribute to the Great Master Oscar Peterson :

"I discovered Oscar Peterson in 1978 with "Night train". I instinctively felt that my musical life was changing... How a human being could put such a torrent of notes in fusion, without lead sheet? Was it possible? Obviously each note was at the right place, whatever the speed (often vertiginous) this devil man use to play. All my classical musician’s precepts collapsed in a few minutes. It was necessary for me to know, to understand. I decided to transcribe one of his solos. My first Jazz transcription!...

A few times afterwards, we had the opportunity to meet Oscar himself after a concert in Paris, salle Pleyel. Pascale had sent my Cd to Mr. Franck Ténot, (promoter of the concert) asking him if it could be possible to meet Mr Peterson… To our great surprise he invited us to the concert, and in addition, personally introduced me to Mr. Peterson !By writing these lines, I acknowledge that I miss very much these two gentlemen … The year after, always thanks to Mr. Ténot, we were likely to spend 2 days with Oscar and his family during the Marciac jazz festival . He agreed to be interviewed by me, invited us during his Master class and even asked me to replace him for the sound check because he was tired!!! These moments will remain engraved forever in my memory… I lately put on line this famous interview. You can read it HERE.

thanks

Jean and Charley, thanks for this musical ride together... Thanks to Mitsou and Jean Pierre for they huge competence Thanks to Ollivier for these beautiful engravings! Thanks to all our enthusiastic friends who where there this night, and who carried us further than previous ! Thanks to all of them who are still there! (they will recognise themselves...) Thanks to all my family for love and support, I love you all. And finally, thanks to Frank Ténot and Oscar Peterson for all these moments I will never forget… Serge
